When Is My Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

What is a Bar Mitzvah?
On reaching his 13th birthday every Jewish boy is able to celebrate his coming of age or "Bar Mitzvah". The term refers to a new status of being able to fulfill Mitzvot (G-D's commandment ) as prescribed in the Torah.

One of the most visibles examples is the tefilin (small leather boxes with pieces of scripture worn on the head and arm) ,which religious Bar-Mitvah boys will put on every morning after reching Bar Mitvah age.

How is it celebrated ?
It has become customary for the Bar-Mitzvah to be marked by the Bar-Mitzvah boy taking an active part in the Sebbath morning prayers. The boy is called to read the blessing before the reading of a portion of the Torah. In many cases the boy wil also read all or part of the Torah portion. Many will read the last portion (known as Maftir) in combination with the reading from the prophets (Haftorah).

An enjoyable if not obligatory part of the occasion is the Seudah (party) which the family will host in order to mark the occasion of the Bar -Mitzvah of their son.
